Fence Repair

#one Post by ronhusak » Mon Jan 16, 2022 4:37 pm

Hi All..
I own a 2022 Sylvan toon.. I bought it used in 2022. We use this boat a lot at Lake Havasu in the wintertime.. We tow it downward every twelvemonth with our motorhome and enjoy it a lot. Nosotros also use it for about a calendar month in the summer. Nosotros alive in Colorado.
The aluminum skin on the fencing had several light creases and dents when I bought it. Merely in all honestly I have added some and have an area about 2 to iii anxiety long that I damaged a couple of years ago when I was pushed into a dock past loftier winds... This drives me crazy...
Sylvan uses a system to attach information technology's skin to the frame (the frame is undamaged) that amounts to a slip in that is aptitude ninety degrees into the frame and agglutinative tape to agree it in place..
That really looks like it would be very difficult to supplant with this organisation..
Has anyone used a peel mounted to the outside of the frame and rivet or screw to the frame? What would y'all use.. Aluminum or a vinyl type material?
This damage drives me nuts.. I like my stuff to look squeamish..
Any input would be appreciated...
Ron

Hi BobL..
I am very familiar with Dent Magician and similar companies.. Employ to use them a lot when I was in the rental car industry... My skins are besides far gone for that.. The thin aluminum really stretches hands and it looks bad especially to me.. New metal is the only fix I am afraid..
But, thank you for the suggestion..

According to the below link, this company makes fences out of 1/eight" aluminum panels. They talk near it in the middle, correct picture. They utilize something called di-bond? I know nothing near information technology, but came beyond it during my searches the final couple months.

The skin is pressed into the rail guides, you won't be able to excerpt the damaged peel and insert a new skin the all-time way to repair it is to replace the unabridged section of fencing, new runway with skin already inserted I had a similar issue with a brand new pontoon that had skin damage that the rails was fine, a good sheet metal guy can go some of the dents out simply I had a brand new $forty,000 toon then I elected to contact the mfg gave them serial # etc and they were able to send me a new runway with skin and the price was not all that bad problems come up however with the shipping as they tin can be easily damaged in transit

What did it cost y'all? My 2022 has some pocket-size damage from bouncing up and down smacking someones dock during a storm. Its pushed in against the lounger and can only be seen from an angle but I may be selling or trading, It needs to be replaced.

the fence with pare and new decals included cost $450. delivered to the dealer every bit I had to order it through the dealer, it took two of the states
nearly 2 and a half hours to take off the old rails and bolt on the new rail, my neighbors boat striking mine while he was backing out of his slip initially the dent was pretty large we were able to bang out most of it merely it still wasn't correct so I had it replaced, y'all should be able to make a harm claim on insurance

Hello mrlouis...
That would cost me a bunch as I would demand several sections... In fact last flavor coming abode I had a freak thing happen... I had my travel cover on towing across I40 in northern Arizona nigh 65 MPH.. The comprehend right on the tope blew a seam and the front gate blew open which blew the skin out of the side gate!!! Literally blew the lower skin out of the frame! Had to accept the cover stock-still and my blood brother and I put the skin back on as well as possible.. And then that is why I was looking at redoing the unabridged debate skin... One of the vendors I constitute uses .030 textile which is .010 heavier than what I have...
To top it off the canvas maker says he won't guarantee the comprehend when being towed (he didn't anyhow for this repair). Am considering towing without information technology just wanted to avoid snowfall and dirt every bit well as rain just making a mess...
Will have to really look at the contend frame to see if in that location is another mode to attach...
Sometimes really difficult to have fun!

Anybody attempt re-skinning using adhesive instead of rivets? The peel on enclosed trailers always looks wrinkled around the rivets but newer ones are glued on and expect smoother. I would consider using 3M automotive trim adhesive but y'all'd need to apply the tape close to the outside edges of the rails and then there'd be no gap to collect dirt.
